The Meade Activity Center’s Holiday Fitness Series Concluded on Tuesday, January 1st with the New Year’s Day Fun Run. There were 107 registered participants that took on the 5K, 10K, or 20K run. Considering the time of year, we were fortunate to have fair conditions throughout the event and our runners were able to start the New Year off right. Upon completion of the event, runners were able to enjoy a little bit of fellowship and the company of one another with a potluck brunch.
The MAC would like to once again extend thanks to our event sponsors, participants, and local community volunteers who helped make our new Holiday Fitness Series possible.
Those needing to pick up New Year’s Day shirts can stop in the MAC office to do so.
The Hobknob over Bee Knob, the Meade Activity Center’s first race of the Holiday Fitness Series was run on Saturday November 17th. The event drew people from all over the county and other surrounding communities as well. The intrigue of the challenge facing the runners helped build hype and ultimately drove attendance up to the 114 runners that braved a chilly morning and took part in the 1 mile, 5K, or 10K events. The MAC would like to thank the Sponsors that made the event possible as well as the local area runners who helped make the event a success. Race results are posted in the 2 attachments below.

The MAC started as a group of civic minded individuals with a common goal. One of those individuals who represents how a community can work together to make successes possible is Patsy Thompson. Patsy, a former school teacher and psychologist in Meade County has embodied everything about the word volunteer when it comes to the MAC.
In 2011 Patsy along with her fellow grant writers, Peggy Darnall, and Joan Wilson, successfully landed the MAC a substantial federal grant through partnership with the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. The Social Innovation Fund grant has been essential in the early development stages of all MAC programming, but especially towards those geared towards our youth. In addition to her grant writing efforts she coordinated the evaluation process and led the collaboration between the MAC and the school system to offer the CATCH afterschool program at the local elementary level. It was a monumental task to get MAC programming off the ground and Patsy Thompson was at the forefront every step of the way.
Patsy has been involved intensively with other organizations as well in the past. She has volunteered and served with the Meade County School System, the Meade County Pre-School Program, the Meade County Water Commission, and has been involved and a dedicated volunteer at First Baptist Church for many years. She is a valued colleague and an even better person. We thank her for her time and efforts not only to the MAC, but to the Meade County community.
Patsy and Jim Thompson reside in Battletown KY. Patsy and Jim both held positions within Meade County Schools up until retirement, and continue to be involved in local community. They have three children with spouses; J & Candace Thompson, Jessica & Chad Hutchins, Leigh Margaret & Josh Stull. They are the grandparents of Ellie, Jackson, Cannon, Adeline, Annabelle & one more on the way!
