About
In late November of 2008 a civic minded group with representation from across the county met to discuss the lack of access to fitness, wellness, and activity centers in the area. In the spring of 2009 that group commissioned a survey which indicated that the Meade County community as a whole would strongly support this type of organization and endeavor. With data to support the dream, the committee took the next critical step toward making this dream a reality. As a result, this group later formed the Meade Activity Center, Inc, (MAC) a 501c3 non-profit organization focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, developing programming, and building a health and wellness center to serve the community. The MAC’s core strategy is to promote programming and events to create a shift in awareness in the community towards creating and living a healthier lifestyle.
Since that time, the MAC has provided hundreds of programs and events to promote the mission of the project. Events such as community forums, 5K runs, triathlons, swim lessons, adult fitness programs, youth sports, and the MAC Matter’s Gala fundraiser have branded the organization as a serious, credible, and sustainable project. The Meade Activity Center has been supported in part by the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, the United Way, The First Tee, the USTA, and the Todd Wagner Foundation. In 2015, we took a huge step forward by completing the construction of our new state of the art fitness facility that truly makes the MAC the hub of wellness and recreation in Meade County.
We have made great progress, but there is so much left to do. We need our local community to continue to fuel our mission through financial support, volunteerism, or both!
