(Brandenburg, KY) The Meade Activity Center (MAC) Board of Directors is excited to announce that International Tennis Hall of Fame inductee and former #1 tennis player in the world, Monica Seles will be the guest of honor at the 2013 MAC Raising A Racket Gala on April 13th. The Gala will be held at the Farm Bureau Community Building in Brandenburg, Kentucky on Saturday, April 13th at 7:00 pm.
Seles who grew up in the former Yugoslavia, began playing tennis at the age of five. She spent 19 years on the WTA Tour where she won 9 Grand Slam titles as well as 53 WTA tour singles titles. In 2009, Ms. Seles was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Seles was ranked as the 15th greatest player ever to play the game by Tennis Magazine.
Upon her retirement in 2008, Seles has donated much of her time to philanthropic interests that she holds close to her. Her willingness to attend the MAC Gala comes as no surprise. Her charitable endeavors include a Goodwill Ambassadorship for IIMASAM, a international organization that is devoted to eradicating malnutrition around the world, and she has advocated on behalf of many other charitable organizations throughout the country.
Ms. Seles follows a distinguished list of MAC Gala guests of honor including: Don Henley, solo artist and member of the Eagles; Dan Rather, former CBS Evening News anchor and HDNet Program host; and Kenny Perry, PGA Tour Golfer and Ryder Cup Champion.
The Meade Activity Center was initiated by a group of civic-minded individuals with the goal of expanding physical activity and wellness opportunities in our local community. Over its brief history, the MAC has been able to touch lives of many, and continues to strive towards its mission of promoting active lifestyles and a healthy community through education, wellness, and recreation opportunities for all.
“It is a testament to the mission and direction of the MAC when an international celebrity like Monica Seles agrees to participate in our efforts to improve the lives and health of those in our local community,” said John Beavin, MAC Board Chairman.
The Gala’s Master of Ceremonies will be Meade County native Kari Wagner, board member for the Todd Wagner Foundation, an organization devoted to building strong communities through education, technology, health care and enrichment opportunities. Mrs. Wagner has been an avid ambassador and supporter of the MAC since its inception.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on March 4th. For more information regarding this year’s MAC Gala or the Meade Activity Center, please contact our office at 270-422-2227, or email us info@meadeactivitycenter.org.
